Call for global start-ups to help increase urban resiliency

Leading Cities and QBE North America have joined forces to announce the QBE AcceliCity Resilience Challenge, a competition calling on entrepreneurs to develop solutions that foster urban resiliency.

According to the partners, QBE AcceliCity will both recognise and support these innovators which leverage smart city solutions that help cities manage and respond to physical, economic and social risk. In addition, the accelerator will provide feedback that helps to streamline their technologies and ideas.

Adopted by cities

Winning submissions will also receive funding and additional resources to help make their initiatives a reality and prepare them to be adopted by cities across the country.

“As cities scramble to adapt to ‘new norms’ we are turning to smart city start-ups to help provide the agility and ingenuity to heal some of the most painful wounds felt by communities everywhere,” said Michael Lake, president and CEO of Leading Cities.

“This programme builds the needed bridge to cross the very real divide between cities and start-ups.”

QBE AcceliCity is accepting applications for its accelerator program culminating with a boot camp in Boston and a pitch day in New York City, where start-ups will have the opportunity to win $125,000 in funding.

Last year’s edition of the contest brought more than 500 applications from 43 countries.

“The health of our cities are vital to the health of our country, our economy and our way of life,” added Todd Jones, CEO of QBE North America, and president of the QBE Foundation.

“At QBE, it is in our DNA to provide support where needed, and we look at our cities and see they are in critical need of sustainability and the capability to react in the most difficult of times. The QBE AcceliCity Resilience Challenge gives us the opportunity to help find and deliver solutions that are both innovative and long lasting.”

If your enterprise would like to be part of the QBE AcceliCity Resilience Challenge, more information and applications are available at AcceliCITY.com. The deadline for start-ups is 15 June 2020.

AcceliCity leverages the Leading Cities network of forward thinkers in the public, private, academic, and non-profit sectors. The programme seeks to lower the cost and risk of innovation for start-ups as well as cities and corporations by streamlining the innovation and sales cycles for smart city solutions.
