United Nations Smart City Initiative launches Business Partnership Program

The United Nations Implementation Program for Smart Cities (United for Smart Sustainable Cities Implementation Program – U4SSC IP) strengthens the networking activities of the private sector and cities with a partnership program for companies in order to generate and implement smart and sustainable projects that are necessary to realize on a global scale. Furthermore, the program strengthens the active contribution of businesses to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The U4SSC IP partnership is designed to bring companies together with decision-makers and high-level city representatives in order to assess urban challenges and needs, develop solutions and initiate specific projects or investment opportunities as well as financing instruments.

“By matchmaking the main stakeholders from industry and the private sector with cities and municipalities, we can significantly accelerate the development of smart and sustainable cities through specific projects, thereby promoting quality of life and prosperity in line with the sustainability goals. We are enabling this matchmaking with the new partnership program for companies”, states OiER Secretary General Kari Aina Eik, who is responsible for the United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) Implementation Program.

The Organization for International Economic Relations (OiER) has developed the U4SSC Implementation Program in cooperation with 16 UN organizations. The program is managed by the OiER and coordinated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN Habitat).

The managing partners for the new U4SSC IP partnership program for companies are the OiER and bee smart city, the global partner platform of U4SSC IP.

Benefits of the partnership program for companies

“A partnership with the U4SSC Implementation Program supports the participating companies in defining new business flows and implementing their sustainable activities profitably. Companies have the opportunity to network directly with cities and other companies online and offline, and to present their services and solutions to representatives and decision-makers from cities to start the cooperation process”, explains bee smart city Managing Partner Bart Gorynski and adds that at the same time, the company’s brand positioning is increased through global events, communication and PR activities within the U4SSC IP network.

For U4SSC IP partners, the program also offers connections to decision-makers from international organizations and the United Nations, in order to get involved in predefined and exclusive expert groups, global standard teams and working groups.

The partner companies that have already joined include: Siemens, Deutsche Telekom, Maxar, BDO, Leitner Ropeways, Offshore Simulation Center, BRAINTRIBE, Sanitronics, Rubicon, BTG, wbcsd, Emma, sendhybrid, Hyper Hydro Organics, etc.
